Common Treated Pine Uses
The treatment level dictates where and how the timber can be used, so choosing the right grade matters. A quick overview of the common applications we supply:
- Fencing: Treated pine posts, rails and palings for residential and rural fences.
- Landscaping: Sleepers, retaining timbers and edging for gardens and yards.
- Structural Outdoor: Pergolas, patios and outdoor framing where the timber is exposed to weather.
- Posts & Poles: Ground-contact treated posts and poles for a range of uses, from fencing to structural support.
Frequently Asked Questions
H-levels rate the hazard the timber is protected against. H2 is for internal above-ground use, H3 for external above-ground, H4 for in-ground contact, H5 for critical in-ground applications such as house posts, and H6 for marine use. Specifying a lower H-level than the application requires will cause premature failure.
The green tint comes from copper-based preservatives such as CCA or ACQ that are pressure-treated into the timber. The colour fades with weather exposure over time and does not affect the structural performance or the ability to paint or stain the timber once it has dried.
Yes. The preservative penetrates from the surface inward, so cutting or drilling exposes untreated timber underneath. Brushing exposed ends with an end-grain preservative maintains the treatment envelope and prevents rot from starting at the cut.
