We handle the timber from the bush right through to your job, and we take the same care with a single length as we do with a truckload. Frequently Asked Questions
Structural timber is graded and stress-rated for load-bearing use, such as bearers, joists, posts and beams, and carries a grade stamp such as F-grade or MGP. Non-structural timber has no load rating and is used for cladding, linings, trim and general-purpose work. Always check the grade before using timber in framing or any load-bearing application.
Timber should be stacked flat, kept off the ground, and shielded from direct sun and rain. Place evenly spaced gluts between rows so air can move through the pack, and keep it under cover where possible. Poor storage causes bowing, cupping and moisture-related movement before the timber is even installed.
Rough sawn timber comes straight off the saw at its nominal size, with a coarse finish suited to structural, landscaping and fencing use. Dressed timber, sometimes labelled DAR (dressed all round), is machined smooth on all four faces and finishes slightly smaller than nominal, ready for flooring, cladding and joinery.
